Perfect Faith | Looking For A Sign
Looking for a Sign: “Perfect Faith”
Genesis 12:2-3, Hebrews 11:1-13, Luke 5:12-13, Romans 5:8
CIRCUMSTANTIAL Faith: Trusting in God and believing in God based on my ability to FIND God in my CIRCUMSTANCES.
Circumstantial faith is very FRAGILE.
Faith is not a force, or a POWER.
Faith is NOT the REASON we follow Jesus.
Hebrews 11:1-13 pg. 1,874
v.1 “Now FAITH is CONFIDENCE in what we HOPE for, and ASSURANCE about what we DO NOT SEE.”
Faith is CONFIDENCE that God IS who He says He is, and that He will DO what He PROMISED to do.
v.2 “This is what the ANCIENTS were COMMENDED for.
The ancients were commended for responding to God’s PROMISE to them PERSONALLY, but all of them also believed in God’s promise for the WORLD.
v.13 “All these people were still LIVING by FAITH when they DIED. They did not receive the things PROMISED; they only saw them and welcomed them from a DISTANCE.”
The BRIDGE between Hope and Faith is always the PROMISE of God.
Faith without a promise is simply PRESUMPTION.
“While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered in leprosy. If you are WILLING you CAN make me clean. Jesus reached out His hand and TOUCHED the man. I AM WILLING, He said.” Luke 5:12-13
“But God DEMONSTRATES His own love for us in this: While we were still SINNERS, Christ died FOR US.” Romans 5:8
Questions:
1. Based on Hebrews 11, what is the difference between Hope and Faith?
2. If the bridge between Hope and Faith is the promise of God, how do you know what promises God has made to you and to the world?
3. What are some of God’s promises that are especially meaningful to you?
