The Gather Podcast | Depending on God
This week Autumn teaches about how God is our Strength. Jesus found strength in His Father too.
Everything we experience Jesus experienced and more. When facing isolation and trouble, where did Jesus go for strength and peace?
Jesus replied. “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:31-33
Jesus shows us that He has overcome the world and all its trouble. He wants us to overcome too by trusting Him and putting our faith in Him.
When Satan gives the apostle Paul a thorn in his flesh, Paul relies on God for strength in weakness. “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But (Jesus) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
We resist dependency on God and prefer self-sufficiency; however, we grow in our love for God and others as we depend on Him to make us strong.
When we rely on ourselves we feel shame, alone, anxious and weak. This week try rewriting a verse in your own words or writing our a prayer like a psalm. Do something scared this weak and watch how He makes you brave.

Listening Prayer: Think of three situations where you feel weak. Ask your Heavenly Father how He wants to be your strength in these situations.
